Dubbed "L.A.'s Best Kept Secret", " Amadeus at the Turntables", and "Rave Dad", Charlie got his start in the scene about 9 years ago.
"I reluctantly went to my first rave, with a friend from Australia. We ended up on an Indian reservation, and the moment I heard the thumping base, I was hooked. Of course, the music was by no comparison to what we have today, but it was what we had, and it worked."
With passion ignited, Charlie's first contribution to the scene was
Mona Lisa, an Orange County underground trance club back in 1993, showcasing djs Taylor, Sandra Collins, Browne, Guy Oldhams from Manchester, and a host of talent from Ministry of Sound, London.
By 1995, Charlie bought his first set of tables and taught himself how to spin. His first venture at spinning out was a disaster. Never the less, opportunities did arise, some of which were at Integral Gathering and Primal Trance.
In 1997, Charlie quit his professional job as an Environmental Engineer, and teamed with Chelsea to start
ClubSoda as a weekly underground club, which gained popular attention, only to be interfered with by local police one too many times. Several setbacks occurred, including a short lived homeless stint.
Those days are past. Relocating to Orange County, and working again as a Internet Computer Customer Service Rep, Charlie dedicates the majority of his free time to practicing. That dedication and devotion is paying off and presently Charlie's notoriety is gaining headway as he performs almost weekly.
Charlie's style of spinning is unique, blending many styles of Trance and Progressive House. He is a storyteller, most noted for his ingenuitive and powerful mixes, earning him the dub "Amadeus at the Turntables".
"I try to incorporate the masculine and the feminine into my set, by combining tracks you might otherwise never consider mixing together. I look forward to that sweet emotional response, where I get chills all over, goose bumps, and tears of joy. If this happens to me, I know it will happen to many others."
His future plans include nurturing
ClubSoda into a successful participant in the scene, with events both locally and abroad, as well as making it a dj management firm, a record label, and more.
"Right now, the music and
ClubSoda are the only real reasons I am glad to be around. I can't imagine life without trance. It's such a depressing thought."
